Cartier would go on to the be the jeweller of choice for royalty all over the world.
For any jeweller, having one royal client would be a huge achievement that would help shape the brand forever, but for Cartier, this was just the first of many. It did not take long for this vision to materialise as Cartier was quite the social-climber, quickly solidifying ties with Royalty and Aristocracy, and 1859 would see Princess Mathilde, niece of Napoleon Bonaparte begin to do her Jewellery shopping with Cartier. From the moment Louis took over the workshop, his vision for success was clear, the company would build its reputation on serving the most exquisite pieces of jewellery to the upper-class and the elite. Louis had been operating out of the workshop for some time, underneath Adolphe Picard, who taught him everything he knew. In 1847 The House of Cartier was founded as a family run jeweller at no.29, Rue Montorgueil in Paris by the 28-year-old, Louis-Francois Cartier.
